Die Myrthus comunnis ist eine der ältesten Kübelpflanzen. Bereits im 16. Jahundert wurde die Myrte für Brautschmuck verwendet, weshalb im Deutschen auch häufig die Bezeichnung 'Bauernmyrte' verwendet wird. Die Myrte wächst als kleiner buschiger Strauch und kann eine Höhe von bis zu 150 cm erreichen.
