Der Szechuan Peffer, auch Pfefferstrauch genannt, stammt ursprünglich aus Asien, genauer aus China, Taiwan, Japan und Korea. Er ist pflegeleicht und winterhart und besonders aufgrund seiner Früchte mit dem einzigartigen Aroma eine sehr beliebte Pflanze auch in europäischen Gärten. Der Strauch kann zwischen 2 und 4 Meter hoch werden. Klein gehalten ist die Pflanze somit auch sehr gut für Terrasse oder Balkon geeignet. Die Früchte sind im Oktober und November reif und können dann aufbewahrt oder gleich gemahlen (z. B. in einer Pfeffermühle oder mit einem Mörser) und zum Würzen von Gerichten verwendet werden.
